Memorial weekend adventure!!!

A Great adventure!!!

We are so excited to take the East Coast Lady on our first over night trip. Looks like it will be around 65 miles all said and done. There will be 3 days of sailing and two different Island ports of call. We will leave on Friday, "weather permitting" and head south, south east down the Beaufort river.  We may have to do this leg under power. We have had strong south winds this past week and this length of the trip puts us in IRONS the whole way. We only have a half day on Friday.I have to work... I know, I know. We will sail the complete length of the Marine training facility at Paris Island SC. When we get to the Port Royal sound and the Broad river, we will head south west and follow the AICW across the 5 mile expanse to the mouth of Scull Creek, and tuck in behind Hilton Head Island. We will continue across the back of Hilton Head to  Scull creek marina to settle in for the night.
First Night Scull creek marina Hilton Head South Carolina.

We will get up Saturday morning and have a light breakfast. Prep the boat for sailing. We will cast lines and continue the length of Scull creek to pass under the William Hilton Bridge. We hope not to find this much fog when get to the bridge.

After the bridge the waterway will open up into whats known as the The sound is known for its great beauty and abundant wile life.I have not had the pleasure of sailing here, however the East Coast Lady lived here for 25 years with the previous owner. I'm sure she will feel at home. the Calibogue sound measures 11 miles long by up to 3 miles wide in some spots. It runs in a north east to south west line. making a prevailing wind from the south a god day for sailing. Its a great place for sailing with plenty of depth as long as you stay in the middle.

After a sailing and exploring on Saturday we will head over to Daufuskie island to check out the docks to see if we can stay the night. I was told by a fellow sailor that the docks there are known as boat killers. I don't want to have any drama during this trip. I want deb to have a great first overnight trip, with only good memories. that being said I do know the currents around this island are ragging and need caution to navigate with success. I want to go straight over there in the Morning on Saturday to check out the docking and currents to see if I feel comfortable with it or if we will go back to Hilton Head for Saturday night

See ya in port...
