This is an update to the Memorial Day weekend sail noted on prior post.
We did not complete this voyage as planned. We did however have a couple of great days sailing.
The Sunday Deb, Jim and I did a 45 mile trip out to the # 19 channel marker in the Atlantic Ocean. That’s about 7 miles offshore. It’s the farthest we have been under sail. It was a great day. We had the wind off the nose the whole way out.  We motored until we came abreast of Parris at which point we began our slow beet into the wind. Once we made the Port Royal Sound we turned straight out toward the ocean “East-South East” and caught a broad reach. The wind was 12 to 14 at that point and the boat was flying. The best hull speed and ground speed with the outgoing tide was showing a “gps” COG of 7.9 knots.
The best part of the day was the dolphins that caught our bow wave, if just briefly.  It always brings the happiness of the crew up. In our case it was already a great day to be alive and a better day for sailing. On the way back in we lost the wind and had to motor 30 min or so to find the breeze back in the sail. But, when it picked back up it was at 12-14 knots and at our backside. We had a great sail back to the Port Royal Landing marina. We tied up told Jim good night. Deb and I freshened up and went for a romantic dinner at the Saltus Grill. She had the Caramelized scallops and I had the sirloin. It was very good. Our good friends and neighbors told us it’s the favorite place to go so we gave it a try. It’s very good and we will go again. The service was unmatched. The food, though good , was not the greatest.
After dinner we eased back to the sailboat and settled into a great night sleep.  We did not go Island hoping as we planned, however we did spend a great night on the Lady. There is something to be said for being rocked to sleep by the warm southern breezes of the Low-Country. Enjoy this short video of the trip.

Cheers,
